Woodworking For Kids

Would you like to let your child have fun learning how to work with wood? I've decided to offer Kids Workshops.

Parent/Child Woodworking Fun
You and your child get to make, or put together, something made out of wood, and you get to take it home with you afterwards. I have 3 different project plans for different age ranges. The workshops take place in my store on Saturday afternoons. Limit of 4 children per workshop. See below for schedules.
Most pictures below are samples. Photos of actual products made by kids will be added as they are made.

Sign up for a workshop here, or in my store.

The Workshops

Little Kids (ages 3-8)
This one is a simple project. Your child gets to put together a simple birdhouse, a tool tray, a shapes cube, or a ring toss game, by just gluing dowels into pre-drilled holes. No nails or screws. No hammering or cutting. Just simple and safe assembly. Nailing with a wooden hammer into pre-drilled holes is sometimes optional. Coloring or decorating with crayons or pencil crayons afterwards is also optional.

Total time: 1 - 1.5 hours

Bigger Little Kids (ages 5-12)
This one is a fairly simple project. Your child gets to put together a fairly simple bird feeder, a shoe rack, or a DVD holder using nails and screws. Screw and nail holes are pre-drilled. Finishing with latex paints or water-based varathane afterwards is optional.

Total time: 1 - 2 hours

Bigger Kids (ages 7-15)
This one is a bit more complicated. Your child puts together a basic wood box (jewellery, money, small parts, whatever you want), a simple chair, a mail box, or make their own plaque, and they get to do a little power tool work if the parent wants them to. They can then finish with water-based paint, stain, or varnish.

Rules, Terms and Conditions

For any of the project plans, as the parent, it's up to you to decide if your child is ready for the project. Some 2 year olds can glue things together and some 5 year olds can't. Every child is different, and his/her abilities are unique. You will be present to help your child, so age isn't a big factor. It just determines how much you will need to help. I will show the children each step to perform, and can help each one if needed, or you can help your child yourself.

I will teach appropriate safety, have a first aid kit, and will have child suitable safety equipment when needed, like for the bigger kids plans, but you are ultimately responsible for your child's safety. If, for any reason, your child acts up and may be a danger to anyone, they get one warning. If the child acts up a second time, you and your child will be asked to leave.

If you have any questions, requests, or suggestions email me at or "contact me".
